The Hornets improve to 2-0 on the season with a big win over their biggest Cape Ann League rival in a game that head coach Andrea Slaven
called a tournament atmosphere.
Brittany Smith scored the games lone goal and the game winner at 15:29 of the first half with an assists from senior captain Kelsi Field .
The team defense of goalie
Maddi Bistrong (7 saves), Ivy Silag-Stearns, Sarah Beckmann and Carolyn Heslop
played outstanding according to Slaven.
Peabody 5 Gloucester 1
The Fishermen (0-1) fell to a strong Tanners team in their season opener Thursday.
Hayley Davis scored Gloucester’s goal with an assist from Autumn Zubricki. Head coach Stephanie Couture praised the play of junior captain and center halfback Julia Lamoureaux
labeling her the “player of the game.”
Rockport 1 Georgetown 0
The Vikings move to 1-0 with the tight win. Meghan Reilly
scored the lone goal of the game off of a corner. Rockport outshot Georgetown 4-0 and outcornered them 6-2 in a dominant first half.
Aliza Ottenheimer, Shelby Battistelli and Heather MacArthur
also played well for Rockport in the win.
Cross Country
Manchester Essex 26 North Reading 31 (Boys)
The Hornets improve to 1-0 on the young season with a win over a Cape Ann League rival. Manchester Essex may not have taken the top two spots, but it took spots three through five to take the win.
Cam Holley led the way for Manchester Essex with a third place finish followed by Nathan Evans in fourth and Spencer Feurebach in fifth.

Manchester Essex 28 (Girls)
The Hornets (0-1) dropped their season opener by the slimmest of margins. Manchester Essex was led by Fiona Davis (2nd place), Maura McCormick (3rd place) and Lindsey Duff (4th place).
Golf
Manchester Essex 182 Lynnfield 170
The Hornets came out victorious in a very competitive match at Saggamore Springs Golf Course.
Ben Bichet powered Manchester Essex with 38 points, Petey Morton had 34 and Josh Christopher 30. Also contributing was Cam Tuttle and Kevin Carter with 27 points each and Alex Beckmann with 26.
Manchester Essex moves to 1-0 on the season.

North Shore Tech 0
The Vikings move to 1-0 with a win on the road in their season opener. Eva Weinstein and Shelby Salas powered the Rockport offense with a goal each.
The Rockport defense also had a strong afternoon led by Miranda Gale, Marleigh Callahan, Allie Davis and Megan Tupper while Weinstein and Katie Andrews controlled the midfield.
