Third Opinion
I want to give Josh Beckett the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his thumb injury, but I just can't do it.
All reports indicate that Beckett's thumb injury is minor and will not cause him to miss his scheduled start on Saturday, but WEEI has reported that he is now flying to Cleveland to get a third opinion on the injured thumb after getting a second opinion in Texas.
After last year's locker room debacle and the fact that he was not accountable for his role in the team's collapse, it's hard not to view this as the so called "Texas Tough Guy" being a high maintenance prima donna. Sure Beckett can pitch, he nearly single handedly pitched them to the World Series in 2007, but at this point the bad far outweighs the good. It's too bad he has no trade value right now or Beckett would be out of town, and believe it or not the team would be better off without him at this point.
Bad Omen
The University of Kentucky's NCAA basketball National title may be bad news for Red Sox fans. Just look at the history, the last six times Kentucky won the NCAA Basketball Title, the Yankees went on to win the World Series, a steak that dates back to the 1950's. Here's hoping they buck the trend this year.
MLB Predictions
The Red Sox start regular season play this afternoon, it's time to predict who will be postseason bound and who will win the World Series.
The Red Sox will not win the AL East, the Yankees will because they have a deeper pitching staff, but the Red Sox will finish in the top five and play for the Wild Card against Division rival Tampa Bay. Detroit takes the Central and the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim win the West. In the postseason the Tigers outlast the Angles to move on to the World Series.
Over in the National League the Phillies win the East, the Reds the Central and the Giants the West. The Phillies, powered by their pitching staff, will go on to win the National League and the World Series thanks to Ryan Howard's late season return.
