Say what you want about the lack of success from the Boston College football and basketball programs, but there's no denying the BC men's hockey program is one of the premier programs in Division 1 College sports, regardless of sport.
The Eagles put an exclamation point on another stellar season Saturday with a 4-1 win over upstart Ferris St. in the National Championship games, BC's third in the last five years and fourth in the last 12 years under head coach Jerry York, who is quickly moving into legendary status if he isn't there already.
Watching the Eagles play in the National Title game you see that the team just has no weaknesses, and they are as intelligent as they are talented. It's tough to root for Boston College sometimes but this hockey team is about as easy to root for as any team in the area. And the scary thing is it doesn't look like they're going anywhere any time soon as long as York is standing behind the bench.
Rounding into form
The Bruins may have hit a bit of a mid season snag after being frustrated by the vile Vancouver Canucks in January, but it looks like the team has gotten its legs and swagger back at just the right moment. Heading into the playoffs after Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Buffalo, Boston is looking relatively healthy and they are playing good hockey again.
One has to like the Bruins' chances right now as this team is battle tested and they are proven winners. The Eastern Conference is better then it was in 2011, but one can make a case that the Bruins have gotten better too. As it always is, the Eastern Conference playoffs are going to be an absolute battle and the Bruins are right in the mix with the top teams, that's all a fan base can ask for.
Down the stretch they come
The NHL playoffs may be starting on Thursday which will give the city of Boston Stanley Cup fever again, but the Boston Celtics are also in for an interesting stretch run and final 10 games of the year.
Over the next three weeks seeds are on the line in the Eastern Conference. Miami and Chicago will finish No. 1 and No. 2 in some order, but the next four spots are up for grabs with the Celtics, Pacers, Hawks and Magic being separated by just 2.5 games.
Every game is important over these last two weeks and it should make for some outstanding late season basketball.
