Crunch Time

NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Gloucester native and St. Anselm college Freshman attackman Geoff Kennedy continues to take the collegiate lacrosse scene by storm. On Monday Kennedy was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week.

The Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team remains nationally ranked for the fifth-straight week, according to the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, as the Hawks move up to ninth place in the Division II rankings after making their program debut on the poll with a 12th place rank on Monday, Mar. 12.

Kennedy is the team's leading goal scorer with 14 goals and man-up goals with five on the year to go along with six assists.

Kennedy is curently riding a seven game point scoring streak that dates back to February 27.

Move over, Wilt

In a recent game in a Division A Lebanese game, Mohannad El Akkari scored 113 points to lead his team to a 173-141 win. He made 32 of 59 3-pointers and was 40 for 69 from the floor overall.

Sad, but true

In a recent survey of children ages 8-14 conducted by i9 Sports, 84 percent said that at one time they quit a team or wanted to quit, nearly half because "it wasn't any fun." Another half say some teammates were mean or there were too many practices that interfered with other activities.

Also, 31 percent wished adults weren't watching their games, mostly because adults yell too much, are too distracting, make players nervous or put pressure on them to play better and win.

More disturbing, 42 percent of children surveyed would rather play video games than play sports.
