Michel wins Bass Rocks Club Championship

Matt Michel can add another championship to his already extensive 2012 resume.

Michel, a 21 year old Danvers native and golfer at Bentley University, took home the Bass Rocks Golf Club Championship on Sunday shooting a four round score of 281. Michel led the competition from start to finish and by the time he finished the 72nd hole, he was the tournament champion by five strokes over Ben Cunningham, who shot a 286.

The Bentley University standout has had a big year on the links as he was named Division 2 Academic All American for the Northeast 10 Champion Falcons. He will be entering his senior year at the college this fall.

Jan Collins finished third place with a score of 299 and was followed by Curtis Quinn and Mark Noonan.

Quinn, a soon to be Gloucester High School junior who was one of the top performers on the Gloucester golf team as a Sophomore in 2011, was named the club’s junior champion.

Jenny Ceppi took the ladies club championship while Bette Hutchinson won the ladies Trophy Cup, a match play tournament topping Despena Spiliotis in the finals.

Ed O’Reilly was crowned the Bohan Bracket match play champion topping Leif Bakland in the finals while Norm Seppala won the Gillis Championship with a 4 and 2 win in the finals over runner up David Brown.
