Rockport girls' soccer wins season-opener

Sophomore midfielder Eva Weinstein and junior forward Sara Carbone scored goals in each half as the Rockport girls soccer team defeated Minuteman, 2-0, in their season-opener in Lexington.

"We know they're not as strong as Cape Ann League teams," said Neil Dineen, Rockport head coach, about their non-conference opponents. "Our midfield controlled play pretty well, senior captain and sweeper Kelsey Schmink helped organize the defense."

Senior goalkeeper Carolyn Tucker made three saves for the Vikings for a shutout.

Up next, Rockport hosts North Shore Tech on Wednesday afternoon.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Manchester Essex forfeits

There were only four girls competing for the Hornets (you need five) so they didn't score. However freshman Fiona Davis came in first place with a time of 20:39. She ran last year as an eighth-grader but her fast start surprised coach A.J. Migonis.

"I didn't expect that but she's going to have a good year," said Migonis.
