Crunch Time

Revis traded

The Patriots will not have to worry about meeting Darrelle Revis, the NFL’s best cornerback, twice a year anymore as the Jets traded him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

In exchange for Revis the Jets have acquired the No. 13 pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft from the Buccaneers along with a conditional fourth round pick in 2014 that could become a third round pick.

Revis is the highest paid cornerback in NFL history with a six-year $96M contract. The All Pro cornerback has held out before and is coming off of an acl tear suffered in the middle of the 2012 season.

He will get a chance to meet his former team as the Bucs open up the season against the Jets.

Big Game Alert

First place in the Northeastern Conference South is on the line this afternoon when the Gloucester baseball team hosts Danvers at Nate Ross Field (4:00 p.m.).

Both teams are unbeaten in NEC South play, Danvers at 4-0 (6-0 overall), and Gloucester at 3-0 (3-1 overall). The Falcons aren’t only playing for first place in the conference, head coach Roger Day is also going for career win No. 400.

Blown opportunity

Saturday’s Game 1 may have been the Celtics best opportunity to pick up a road win that they will need to move on to the second round of the playoffs. The Celtics played tight defense and held a strong Knicks offense to just 81 points.

The Celtics, however, let the opportunity slip through their fingers with an abysmal offensive performance in the second half. The fourth quarter was so bad for Boston that it had as many points, eight, as turnovers.

There is certainly no need to panic yet, but a missed opportunity is a missed opportunity. An old Celtics team needs to pick up wins early because the longer the series goes, the more it favors the younger and fresher Knicks.
