The Hall of Fame Committee announced the newest class, which features eight athletic inductees and three in the meritorious service category.
Athletic inductees and their most prominent sports are: Robert Jedrey ('50s, hockey, baseball); Mark Brown ('70s, baseball); Luis Avila ('80s, football); Joe Havener-Cribbs ('80s, football); Michael Sutera ('80s, baseball, football); Regina Randazza ('90s, cross country, track); Mario Orlando ('90s, hockey) and Tristan Colangelo ('90s, track).

"This is a tremendous group of inductees," GHS Hall of Fame chairman Gerald O'Neil said. "We had a great group of candidates to choose from."
There are now 137 members in the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame, which began in 1990. Athletes and persons involved in athletics were inducted on a yearly basis until 1996, when the Hall of Fame Committee switched to every other year.
Once an athlete is nominated, he or she is forever considered for induction by the committee. There are 15 members on the committee now. They are Gerald O'Neil, chairman; Mike Powers, vice chairman; Pat Dwyer, secretary; Bob Brazier, treasurer; Frank Iacono, Robert Roland, Paula Lee, Dave Dunsky, Joe Lucido, Kim Patience, Tom Middleton and Kim Patience.
The athletic inductees were chosen based on what they accomplished at the high school level. Consideration was also given to what they accomplished during their college, amateur and professional athletic careers. Meritorious inductees were chosen based upon their service and contribution to the GHS athletic program.
In a statement the committee said "The Gloucester High School Athletic Hall of Fame has been established to honor and perpetuate the memory of all former Gloucester High School students, coaches and associated persons who have brought honor and distinction to the school, the city of Gloucester and themselves primarily during their high school athletic careers. Consideration is given to outstanding performances during college, amateur and professional athletic careers.
"The Committee also recognizes participation and outstanding accomplishments of women in athletics prior to the inception of any organized programs and competition at Gloucester High School."
This year's inductees will be honored in a ceremony before the Gloucester High School football team's game against Revere Friday night, Sept. 8, at Newell Stadium (7). There will also be an induction ceremony Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m. in the Benjamin A. Smith Fieldhouse.
