The Gloucester boys and girls soccer teams had a combined nine players named to the Northeastern Conference All Star team this week.

The state tournament bound Gloucester girls notched five all stars all seniors. Bianca Giacalone, Kali Cook, Elle Wierbicky, Katie Ciaramitaro and Melodie Orrell were named NEC All Stars this week.

Giacalone and Cook were the teams two leading scorers while Wierbicky and Orrell produce on both ends of the field for Gloucester. Ciaramitaro is one of the top defenders in the NEC.

The Gloucester girls now await their state tournament opponent, pairings will be released on Wednesday.

On the boys side Cal Cosgrove, Isaac Randell, Patrick Kelley and Alex Davis were named All Stars.

Kelley is one of the top goal keepers in the NEC. Cosgrove led the team in scoring while Davis was one of the team’s top play-makers in the midfield. Randell was the teams top defenseman on a team that was known for its defense.

Panthers come to town

The Gloucester football team will be taking on the titan of the Northeastern Conference/Cape Ann League tonight at Hyland Field in Manchester (7:00 p.m.).

Beverly will enter tonight’s contest with Gloucester sporting a 7-0 record having run through most of the competition its faced all season. The Panthers are recognized as the top team in all four tiers of the NEC/CAL and only Masconomet has come within two touchdowns of them.

The matchup is interesting tonight because it pits strength against strength. Beverly has a relentless rushing attack featuring Brendan Flaherty, Isiah White and Kenny Pierce while the Fishermen have a stellar run defense that has held just about every team its faced in check on the ground this season.

Just Listening to his wife

Had a great chuckle this morning when Fox-25 news pounced on a Boston Herald report that Wes Welker was selling his Back Bay condominium and moving to Foxboro, where he is renting a house.
