Pats Draft weekend
The Patriots had three more picks during round’s four through seven in Saturday’s NFL draft.
In the fourth round the Pats took their second wide receiver in Josh Boyce out of TCU. The Patriots are hoping Boyce can be the deep threat the team has been lacking in recent years.
In the seventh round the team took defensive end Michael Buchanan of Illinois and linebacker Steve Beauharnais of Rutgers. Beauharnais is the third Rutgers player the Patriots took in the draft. Cornerback Logan Ryan and safety Duron Harmon were selected in Friday’s third round.
Trade for Blount
The most notable move the Patriots made over the weekend was a draft day trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During the seventh round of the draft the Patriots shipped their seventh round selection and running back Jeff Demps to Tampa for running back LeGarrette Blount.
Blount is a big bruising back weighing 247 pounds. He ran for 1,000 yards in 2010 as a rookie but has seen his yardage totals drop in each of the last two seasons. In 2012 Blount ran for just 151 yards and two touchdowns after losing his starting job to rookie Doug Martin.
Blount also comes to the Patriots with a history of attitude issues. The new Patriots running back is more known for his antics in college at Oregon when he punched a Boise St. player in the face following a 2009 loss.
