Area Roundup: Gloucester softball sweeps Saugus

Softball

Gloucester 8, Saugus 2

Karina Keenan went the distance on the mound allowing just two unearned runs in leading Gloucester (3-12) to a season sweep over the Sachems.

Annelise White led the Gloucester offense with three hits, Darien Foley had a RBI hit and Tess Benson had a good game behind the plate.

Boys Tennis

Marblehead 5, Gloucester 0

The Fishermen drop to 6-7 on the year with the loss to the Northeastern Conference Small leading Magicians.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Chris Wile and George Black had a strong match dropping a close one in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).

Girls Lacrosse

Manchester Essex 14, Newburyport 13

The Hornets finish off the regular season at 14-2 and earned a share of the Cape Ann League Small title with Ipswich in the victory. The Division 2 North State Tournament is up next for Manchester Essex, and it figures to be one of the top teams in the bracket.

Girls Tennis

Amesbury 5, Rockport 0

The Vikings move to 2-10 on the year with the loss. Megan Hood had a strong day at No. 2 singles dropping a close match in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Marissa Foote and Katie Andrews also played well falling 6-4, 6-4.

Baseball

Amesbury 10, Manchester Essex 5

The Hornets fall to 2-12 with the loss but had several strong individual performances at the plate. Craig Carter went 3-for-4 driving in a pair of runs. Kevin Carter had two hits and one RBI, Cory Burnham had a hit and two runs scored and Sean Desmond had a two run home run.
