Crunch Time

Divisional

Date Set

The Patriots may not know who will be visiting Gillette Stadium for the Division Round of the AFC Playoffs in two weeks, but they do know when they will play.

The NFL announced on Sunday that the Patriots will host a Divisional Round playoff game on Sunday, January 13 at 4:30 p.m.

The Patriots could find out as soon as Saturday who that opponent will be. If the Houston Texans win at home against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, they will visit Foxborough on January 13. If Cincinnati wins, it will travel to Denver to play the Broncos and the Patriots will draw the winner of Sunday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore.

Best in LA

The Los Angeles Lakers rule the L.A. sports scene, but the usually irrelevant Clippers have made a strong case this season to bump off the Lakers as the most relevant team in Los Angeles.

With Sunday’s win over the Utah Jazz, the Clippers have won 17 games in a row and finished the month of December with an astounding 16-0 record. The Clippers are also easy on the eyes as their run and gun style and superior athleticism has taken the league by storm. The team fits the nickname “Lob City” to a tee as point guard Chris Paul frequently hits athletic forward Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan with perfectly placed lobs.

Celtics fans got a glimpse of just how good the Clippers are this week in the form of a 30 point loss. In three months time pundits may not only be talking about the Clippers as the best team in L.A. but the team with the best chance of knocking off the Miami Heat in the NBA finals.

Rex Stays

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum did not survive Monday’s NFL firing frenzy, but head coach Rex Ryan did.

Ryan, who has two years remaining on his contract, will be back on the Jets sideline in 2013. The Jets will need a completely different team makeup for him to have a successful 2013, however.
