Bedford 6 Rockport 5
The Vikings drop their third straight and fall to 1-4 on the year in heartbreaking fashion as Bedford scored the game winner with under two minutes to play.
The game, a rematch of last season’s Division 3 North Semifinals, was a back and forth, exciting affair as each team came back from deficits. Rockport battled back from a 5-3 third period deficit to tie the score at 5-5 on goals from Mike Tupper and Conor Douglass respectively, but Bedford got the final tally to pickup its second win over Rockport in the last week.
Rockport came out on fire opening up a 2-0 lead and a 17-4 shot advantage after one on two goals from Josh Guertin, but Bedford came back to tie the score at 3-3 after two periods of play.
“It was kind of a crazy game but there were definitely some positives we can take out of it,” head coach Derek Papalegis said. “I liked the way we came back in the third but we just need to develop that killer instinct to put teams away. It’s up to myself and the coaching staff to get the team motivated so we can play ourselves out of this hole.”
The line of Guertin, Tupper and Alex Amoroso had a big night for Rockport scoring four goals with each player chipping in four points. Guertin and Tupper and two goals and two assists while Amoroso had four helpers.
Rockport will be looking to get back on the winning track Saturday when it visits Northeast (1:00 p.m.).
“We put together a really tough non-league schedule and I think it’s going to be good for us in the long run,” Papalegis said. “We are learning a hard lesson right now that we have to come out and play a full three periods of hockey not just one or two. But I’m glad we are learning that lesson in the first five game rather than the last five games.”
