Crunch Time

Welker’s wife sounds off

The Patriots are notorious for not giving the press much to work with in terms of quotability, but the player’s wives seem to do enough talking for the team.

A year after Tom Brady’s wife, Giselle Bundchen, blasted Patriots receivers for dropping passes in last year’s Super Bowl, Wes Welker’s wife, Anna Burns Welker, sounded off against Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

Burns Welker had this to say on her facebook page.

“Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”

She later apologized and removed the post from her facebook page.

“I apologize to Ray Lewis and his family for my comments. In no way did I mean for them to be mean or hurtful. I’m embarrassed for being a sore loser. I wish Ray and the Ravens good luck. Lesson learned!”

Garden Colors

The Boston Bruins gave out notebooks with the team’s logo to media at the home opener Saturday.

The inside cover of the notebook provides an interesting tidbit, stating that the lighting on the outside of the TD Garden “reflects the event happening inside the arena. To celebrate a team win, the exterior lights on the building produce a ‘wave’ effect, signifying a home team victory.”

That said, when you’re driving by the Garden on I-93 South and you see gold lights, the Bruins are playing. If the lights are green, the Celtics are playing. Tie-dye lights means there is a concert or family show happening inside. Blue lights means there is a special event taking place.
