---- — Napoli official
Mike Napoli signed a three year $39M deal with the Red Sox 51 days ago. On Tuesday, after almost two months of attempting to renegotiate a deal due to a failed physical, Napoli is officially a member of the Red Sox. Because of a discovered hip condition, Napoli was forced to rework his contract and officially agreed to a one year $5M contract on Tuesday.
Napoli is expected to play first base and catcher and bat in the middle of the Sox batting order.
“I played with it last year, and there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to be there on opening day and be a starter on opening day,” Napoli said. “Obviously it was a pretty tough offseason, but I think we got it figured out. We’re moving in the right direction. I feel like we got that behind us and we’re ready to go.”
Gymnastics drops close one
The Gloucester/Ipswich gymnastics team dropped a razor thin meet to Peabody on Monday 108.9-106.25. Unfortunately for Gloucester, its most consistent performer, Olivia Grim, was sick and could not compete.
Top scorers for Gloucester were Angus Mauser (8.0, 7.0) and Jess Looby (7.85, 7.3) in the vault and bars respectively, Looby (8.0) and Nicole Roach (7.0) on the beam and Looby (8.3) and Brian Silverstein on the floor (6.3).
Big Game Alert
The Gloucester and Rockport hockey teams will meet for the first time since 1991 tonight at the Dorothy Talbot Rink (6:00 p.m.). The 1991 meeting is the only time the two teams have met, Gloucester won that meeting 8-1.
The game comes at an important time for both teams, as both need a win. At 4-6-1 Gloucester needs a win to inch closer to the .500 mark while Rockport (5-5) can get over .500 for the first time all season with a win tonight.
