Crunch Time

Hall of Famers

Each year the NFL Hall of Fame usually has a snub or two, but this year a stacked class of NFL greats will be enshrined in Canton, Ohio.

Former Patriots head coach Bill Parcells, wide receiver Chris Carter, defensive tackle Warren Sapp and offensive linemen Jonathan Ogden and Larry Allen headline this year’s Hall of Fame class.

All five are more than deserving, as Patriots fans know first-hand what a great coach Parcells is. It was especially refreshing to see the Hall of Fame voters recognize both Ogden and Allen on the first ballot, as they are the two greatest offensive linemen to step on the field in the last two decades.

The one snub this season has to be Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, but his bid is surely coming in the future.

Oden in town

The Celtics organization is officially showing its desperation. This weekend oft injured center Greg Oden, who has been out of the league for two years, paid a visit to Celtics headquarters for a meeting with team officials.

Celtics fans will remember the agony of the 2007 draft lottery when the team’s shots at landing Oden with the No. 1 pick were wiped out when Boston landed the No. 5 pick. That turned out to be a huge blessing, however, as the Celtics pulled over trades for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett a short time later which led to a title.

Oden, on the other hand, missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury and his knees have made him a non-factor in the league. Boston needs a big man with Jared Sullinger going out, but picking up Oden off the streets just wreaks of desperation.

NFL Awards

The NFL also hit the nail on the head with its awards, which were announced on Saturday. Adrian Peterson won the MVP Award and Offensive Player of the Year Award after posting 2,000 yards a year after tearing his acl.
