Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said team officials told him performance enhancing drugs were an option for him to recover from an injury quickly during the 2008 season. Schilling made the accusations Thursday on ESPN radio. He later said the advice did not come from anyone in uniform or the baseball operations group.
“At the end of my career, in 2008 when I had gotten hurt, there was a conversation that I was involved in, in which it was brought to my attention that this is a potential path I might want to pursue,” Schilling told ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd. It was an incredibly uncomfortable conversation because it came up in the midst of a group of people. The other people weren’t in the conversation but they could clearly hear the conversation. And it was suggested to me that at my age and in my situation, why not? What did I have to lose? Because if I wasn’t going to get healthy, it didn’t matter. And if I did get healthy, great.
Mother knows best
Five star running back Alex Collins officially signed his letter of intent to play football at the University of Arkansas this coming season, but that signing came against the wishes of his mother and sparked a bizarre set of circumstances.
Collins was supposed to sign his letter of intent on Wednesday but his mother, who did not agree with his decision to sign with Arkansas, preferring he stay closer to home and sign wit the University of Miami, not only refused to sign the letter but took the letter with her and hired a lawyer to try to block her son from going to Arkansas.
Collins, however, had his father sign the letter and made his decision official on Thursday. The star running back showed no ill will towards his mother’s disapproval.
“She just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision,” Collins said. “She was concerned about me being so far away from home and how I could handle it.”
