Rockport was eliminated from state tournament contention with last night’s loss, falling to 7-10. The Vikings were outscored 18-8 in the first quarter and struggled to climb out of that hole despite holding the Pioneers to just seven fourth-quarter points. Shaun Aspesi and Tucker Meredith paced the Rockport offense with 20 and 18 points, respectively.

“It was a tight ball game down the stretch and they made their free throws,” Rockport coach Tim St. Laurent said. “My boys fought hard.”

The Hornets kept on rolling last night, winning their third-straight game in impressive fashion behind points from Liam Aldrich and 14 points from Max Nesbit. With the win, Manchester Essex improves to 11-7 on the year with two regular season games remaining against Cathedral and Georgetown.

Cathedral 54, Rockport 42

Like their male counterparts, the Rockport girls were officially eliminated from the state tournament with last night’s loss. The Vikings kept the game close much of the way behind 16 points from Rachel Haselgard and 13 points from Heather MacArthur, but Cathedral pulled away late to secure the victory. The Vikings will wrap up their season on Thursday against Notre Dame Academy on Thursday.
