BOSTON (AP) — The game between the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox was postponed Friday because of the threat of severe weather from Hurricane Earl.

The opener of the three-game series was rescheduled as the first game of a day-night doubleheader Saturday. The pitching rotation remains the same with Friday's scheduled pitchers, Chicago's John Danks (12-9) facing Clay Buchholz (15-5) in the first game and Gavin Floyd (9-11) going against Boston's John Lackey (12-8) in the second.

The series marks the return of former Boston slugger Manny Ramirez to Fenway Park for the first time since he joined the White Sox on Tuesday after being claimed on waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Hornets get second crack at Newburyport

The Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team was happy to learn that it drew Newburyport as its opponent in the first round of the Division 2 North state tournament.
No. 10 Manchester Essex (10-6) has seen No. 7 Newburyport (10-5) before in the regular season, with the Clippers coming away with a 12-9 win. The loss to Newburyport on May 10, however, is actually the reason why the Hornets are champing at the bit to play their Cape Ann League rivals one more time. The two teams will meet again Tuesday in Newburyport (4:00 p.m.) with a berth in the Division 2 North Quarter Finals on the line. The winner will meet the winner of No. 2 Ipswich and No. 15 Tewksbury.

The future of the Gloucester boys and girls track teams is looking very bright Case in point the number of underclassmen competing at today's Class B State Championship meet. Of the 16 Fishermen competing today, 14 are underclassmen.
