Nor'easters finish off strong U-14 softball season

The Gloucester Nor’easters U-14 girls softball team recently completed a successful season in the Middle Essex Softball League. By seasons end the Nor’easters finished with a 12-2 record good for a share of the Middle Essex Softball League title.

The Nor’easters were powered by the strong pitching of Amanda Loebelentz and Karina Keenan. Also pitching well when their number was called were Mackenzie Plante and Maria Ventura.

Offensively the girls got outstanding hitting from top to bottom. Led by the bats of Aisha Frontiero, Sara Francis, Sammy Cominelli, Katy Balestracie, and Whitney Good the Nor’easters had one of the most explosive lineups in the league. The offensive highlight of the season was a towing grand slam home from by Balestracie against Beverly.

Defensively the team was solid behind the glovework of Meaghan Manning ,Francis, Frontiero,Ventura, and Plante. Also playing well when called upon were Brie Ramsey, Julia Horne, and Amy Geraghty

The Nor’easters were well represented in the league’s annual All-Star game by Loebelenz, Francis, Cominelli, and Keenan.The league restricted them to four picks but they easily could have sent much more.

Coaches included Dom Francis, Tim Keenan, And Sue Good. Coach Francis said that this was one of the best teams that he’s had the pleasure of coaching.

“Just a great group of kids to be around and their parents helped make the season very enjoyable as well,” He said.
