Crunch Time

Lebron tweet causes stir

Miami Heat forward Lebron James casually bragged that he received an escort from the Miami police department, against traffic, to a Jay Z concert he was running late for by posting a video on twitter of his ride to the Sun Life Stadium.

“They treat us so well! Needed it cause traffic was nuts!” James tweeted.

Turns out the police escort violates Miami Police Department policy and the officer who gave the escort is now in hot water and could face disciplinary action.

Classy as ever

Former Red Sox first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz proves that just because you are a manager doesn’t mean you have to stop being a bonehead.

Currently managing the Twins’ double-A affiliate the Fort Myers Miracle, Mientkiewicz was involved in a bench-clearing brawl in which he tackled the opposing manager and had to be restrained by his players. Not pushed him, tackled him.

You may remember Mientkiewicz as the man who caught the final out of the 2004 World Series — then refused to give the ball back to the Red Sox, wanting to keep it for himself.

Giants honor Boston

Speaking of classy, the San Francisco Giants honored the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings by wearing Boston Strong patches during Monday’s game against the Red Sox. The organization also donated a portion of the game’s ticket sales to the One Fund.

Betcha didn’t know

Did you know that Brady Anderson is Baltimore Orioles’ vice president of baseball operations?

Yes, that Brady Anderson. The same guy that is a poster boy for the steroid era after hitting 50 home runs in 1995 at age 32 after never hitting more than 21 in the season. Also the same Brady Anderson who the Red Sox traded, along with Curt Schilling, to the Orioles for pitcher Mike Boddicker at the 1988 trade deadline. A deal that is not as bad as its reputation.

Vice president of baseball operations is a real job. It’s not shaking hands. Know who does it for the Red Sox? GM Ben Cherington and longtime baseball man Mike Hazen.
