Calling all GHS athletes

The official start of the fall sports season begins today and there is still time to join up. If

If your son or daughter is interested in playing on any of the fall team they must have all the proper forms for the first try-out. You can find all the forms on the Gloucesterschools.com web sight or right in the main office at the high school. You will also find info about user fee’s and reduced fee’s.

Football has started and will still take players please come to the high school on Thursday, August 22 at 6:00 a.m. Girls field hockey begins today at Fuller School Field (8:30 a.m.) as does boys soccer, who will be practicing at Newell Stadium today (5:00 p.m.). Boys and girls cross country also start today, the girls meeting at the Newell Stadium track at 7:00 a.m., the boys meeting at the Newell Stadium track at 6:00 p.m.

Girls soccer begins Monday, August 26 at Newell Stadium (7:15 p.m.), Golf begins Tuesday, August 26 at Bass Rocks Golf Club (3:00 p.m.).

MIAA Informational Video

Still confused on just how the new MIAA Football Tournament Format will take place this fall? An informational video presentation related to the 2013 MIAA Football Tournament Format has been posted on the MIAA website’s main page (miaa.net) and football page.

The presentation is approximately 25 minutes in length and discusses the format details related to non-playoff and playoff games.

I Love Walter!

Tommy Heinsohn’s favorite Celtic of the dead era is back in town. That’s right, Walter McCarty, who is more famous for being center Heinsohn’s “I Love Walter!” chant more than his actual play on the floor, has been hired by the team as one of head coach Brad Steven’s assistants. McCarty played eight out of his 10 years in the league with the Celtics.

James Posey, the sixth man on the 2008 NBA Championship Celtics, is also rumored to be joining the coaching staff as well.
