Area Roundup: Gloucester boys soccer opens with win

The Fishermen move to 1-0 with a win on the road against a tough Northeastern Conference Large opponent.

Senior captain Alex Dahlmer gave Gloucester a 1-0 lead in the first half and Calvin Kipruto, also a senior captain, added an insurance goal late in the second half. The Rams got a goal during stoppage time in the second half but Gloucester held them off the rest of the way for the win.

The Hornets scored the final three goals of the contest to improve to 1-0-1 on the season.

Parker Edington tied the score at 1-1 late in the first half with an assist from George Lantz, he would add another goal just before halftime to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead heading into the break. Lucas Firme’s breakaway goal in the second half capped the scoring at 3-1.

Manchester Essex next hosts CAL rival and Cape Ann counterpart Rockport on Friday night at Hyland Field (7:00 p.m.).
