Area Roundup: Rockport boys soccer edges Manchester Essex

Rockport’s Andrew Waynrynen broke a 1-1 tie with seven minutes to play on a nifty corner kick bending it into the net on his own for the winning goal. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Parker Edington on a nice pass from George Lantz.

Dillon Vecchione tied the score at 1-1 late in the first half putting in a cross from Shaun Aspesi. Rockport moves to 2-0-1 with the win, Manchester Essex falls to 1-1-1.

Girls Soccer

Gloucester 0 Winthrop 0

Gloucester moves to 0-1-1 with the draw at Newell Stadium Thursday.

Head coach Ali Walsh praised her team’s improvements over Tuesday season opener against Salem, a 5-1 loss, as Gloucester turned in a strong showing on the defensive end with an aggressive and relentless style of play. Laura Johnson, Carren Jepchumba, Arianna Wesnor, Alexa Marnoto and Tess Benson all played well for Gloucester.

Rockport 1 Lawrence 0

Rockport gets back to the .500 mark at 2-2 with the shutout win Friday. Miranda Roller scored the goal for the Vikings.


Rockport 117 Georgetown 88

The Vikings pick up their first win of the season moving to 1-1 on the year. Abby Hood led the way for Rockport with 31 points, Kyle Nelson had 22 points, Ethan Tanson and Joe Muzio each scored 18 points for the victors.
