Gloucester native and Northeastern University senior Nate Hunter closed out his indoor track and field career with a 14th-place finish in the shot put at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last Friday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ark.
The former Gloucester High track and field and football standout registered tosses of 17.33m (56-10.25) and 17.65m (57-11), respectively, in his first two of three attempts. Hunter's marks did not qualify him for the second heat of throws.
Arizona State's Ryan Whiting uncorked a toss of 21.52m (70-7.25) to win the shot put title. Whiting's mark currently stands as the fourth-best throw in the entire world for the 2010 indoor season.
Hunter finished his final indoor season by winning 80-percent of the shot put events he entered (eight of 10), including his second IC4A title and fourth New England crown.
The Huskies' throwing specialist will start off his final outdoor campaign next week on his home track at the Husky Spring Open. Northeastern will host the meet on Saturday at Solomon Track in Dedham.
