Crunch Time

No chicken and beer

When Indians manager Terry Francona was asked what helped his team's push to the American League Wild Card this season, he took a lighthearted jab at the last team he managed, the 2011 Red Sox.

"We stayed away from chicken and beer, that helped," Francona joked.

Francona's Indians will meet the Red Sox in the Divisional Round with a win tonight against Tampa Bay in Cleveland (8:07 p.m.). The Indians have won 10 straight games.

BC vs. Army at risk

The government shutout has not spared the sports world as Army, Navy and Air Force may have to their upcoming football games as a result.

Army is slated to play at Boston College on Saturday, BC athletic director Brad Bates released this statement.

"We have been in close communication with Army athletics officials regarding the potential impact of the government shutdown on this Saturday's football game. Obviously our intention is to exhaust all possibilities to play the game and we will communicate the information promptly as soon as we have resolution."
