Gloucester District Court: Man gets six months for theft of compressor

Gloucester District Court

A Bridgewater man was sentenced to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to charges of receiving stolen property and possessing burglary tools in Gloucester District Court.

Judge Joseph Jennings sentenced Wilfred Couchon, 32, of 112 Spring St., in Bridgewater, to a two-year jail sentence. He’ll serve six months with the remainder suspended over two years, with 29 days of the six months already deemed served. He will also be placed on probation for the two-year suspension.

Rockport Police charged Couchon after workers at a Main Street construction site called them in February to report an air compressor was missing. One of the workers said two men — one of them Couchon — were “poking around” the site and drove off in a green and yellow bus, according to the police report.

Officers found the bus at the Sandy Bay Estates in Rockport, and saw the compressor along with other miscellaneous items inside. Two employees of the site went with police to identify the compressor, and they confirmed that it was the one from the site and police arrested Couchon.

Later, when police searched the bus, they also found tools, including a pry-bar, which police said were consistent with tools used for burglary. They also found a box of copper flashing that belonged to the construction site.

The stolen property charges aren’t the only ones Couchon faced in court.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of a class C substance in court and Jenning sentenced him to a concurrent six month jail sentence.

Gloucester police arrested Couchon at a Prospect Street residence in October. They learned Couchon, who had five active warrants for his arrest, was living in the apartment and went there to arrest him. When they did, they found a bottle of pills in his pocket. He did not have a prescription for them.
