Firefighters knock down blaze on Veterans Way

Gloucester firefighters and the department's rescue squad have knocked down what authorities described as a "working fire" in a home on Veterans Way, off Washington Street and just north of Grant Circle.

The initial calls, pegged at 3:20 p.m., came in reporting a house fire at 57 Veterans Way, and firefighters arriving on the scene quickly confirmed that smoke was pouring out the back of the residence.

There were three teenagers in the house at the time of the blaze, but all three escaped safely. A search of the house after the blaze was extinguished determined no one was left inside. And  by shortly after 3:35, firefighters said they had the initial blaze knocked down.
