Town Talk: Night of Stars auditions set

The Spaulding Education Fund’s annual Night of Stars may not be until November, but all school-age children from Manchester and Essex can start auditioning in October.

In addition, there will be an audition for the role of master of ceremonies, open to one or more high school-age students.

There are three audition dates to choose from: Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon; Monday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. ;and Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ales Over ALS

The second annual Ales Over ALS is returning to Essex.

Started in Essex, the event at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum a celebration of all things locally crafted from farm, sea, and brew kettle in support of the continued quest to find a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. All proceeds from this fundraising event will go directly to the ALS Therapy Development Institute.

The event will feature hand-crafted beers from amateur home brewers that will be judged by special guests as well as by fundraiser attendees. Cape Ann Brewing Co. will brew the winning home-brewer’s entry in the competition.

Food will be provided by Woodman’s of Essex, the Village Restaurant, Iggy’s Bread and by other local supporters. Fresh, locally brewed beer will be provided by Cape Ann Brewing Co. of Gloucester.

Tickets are $75 and may be purchased at http://community.als.net/alesoverals. A ticket entitles the bearer to unlimited food, beer from local breweries and a sample of each competition beer.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 5 p.m.
