Swedish pancakes on offer Sunday

ROCKPORT — For the first time, Rockport’s Spiran Hall is holding a Swedish pancake breakfast in the fall.

The meal will be served Sunday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Spiran Lodge No. 98, at the corner of Broadway and School Street in Rockport.

The organization will host a traditional Swedish pancake breakfast that also includes lingonberry jams, syrups, sausage, fruit cup, juice and beverages.

Spiran Lodge is a Scandinavian and Nordic fraternal organization known for its Jul Fest (Christmas) and Mid-Sommar festivals.

The organization holds a spring pancake breakfast to preserve and promote traditional Scandinavian and Nordic heritage in the area, and is open to all. Now by popular demand, Spiran Hall is hosting its first annual Fall Pancake breakfast to celebrate the arrival of the season.

“Everyone loves a Swedish pancake,” said Eric Rask, chairman of the lodge. “Normally we have one on the Good Friday weekend every year. But we’ve had so many requests from people who attended who enjoyed it so much that they wanted another one.”

He described a lingonberry for those unfamiliar with the berry as a cross between a blueberry and a cranberry.

“It’s a nice family gathering when you come and eat picnic style,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Spiran Hall is at 18 Broadway in Rockport. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children.
