Letter: Celebrating Gaines' life is best tribute

To the editor:

I never met Richard Gaines, but I heard about him as soon as we moved here.

It says a lot about a reporter when he is remembered as well as the stories he covered; I have been told this is unusual and that fits with what I have seen in all the places I have lived.

Valor should always be recognized and I believe that will happen here as his community acknowledges all his contributions.

I wish I could find words that console and remove the pain we experience when we lose someone close to us. They might exist, but I have searched in vain to find them. I would dearly enjoy sharing them with Richard’s family and friends.

To everyone who has been close to Mr. Gaines, find ways to celebrate his life and his influences in your life; I think that will honor him and perhaps reduce, by a tiny bit, the loss you now experience.
