Crash driver, 91, escapes 'with not a scratch'

The 91-year-old Rockport woman who rolled over her vehicle in front of Gloucester’s Main Street police station Saturday emerged from the accident “with not a scratch,” she said Monday.

Beverly Quint of Drumlin Road, a longtime community activist as an advocate for Addison Gilbert Hospital and a participant in a number of peace demonstrations and other events, was extracted from her overturned vehicle by Gloucester Fire Department paramedics after the 3:55 p.m. accident Saturday.

”My car took a beating, but I emerged from it with not a scratch,” Quint wrote in an email to the Times.

Before rolling, Quint’s vehicle struck a Gloucester Police pickup truck, damaging a police vehicle as well, according to police.

Quint, a member of Partners for Addison Gilbert Hospital, which has pushed to keep the hospital running in Gloucester and serving the Cape Ann community, was transported via ambulance to AGH for medical treatment.

In her note to the Times, Quint thanked the emergency personnel and Addison Gilbert Hospital’s staff, including the ER crew, the CAT scan technician and the X-ray technician “for their prompt and efficient and deeply caring handling of my brief, timely visit.” She was treated and released.

“All the more reason,” Quint wrote, “why I am devoted to keeping our hospital in our community!”

Officers were still investigating the crash Monday and were unable to provide further information as of Monday.
