A walk in the gardens

ROCKPORT — If you've ever wanted to get a closer look at the gardens that grace the grounds of many Rockport homes, today and tomorrow offer that chance.

The Rockport Garden Club's annual tours of local gardens will run both today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with "Coastal Gardens" the focus and the theme.

The tour — featuring water gardens, cottage gardens and more — will give visitors the chance to view 14 gardens, , many of which have never been open to the public. And one garden near the Atlantic ocean will host the special events, including a luncheon and a sale of original artwork and note cards by local artists.

Tickets are $25, with proceeds benefitting the Garden Club's planting and maintenance of Rockport's 12 town gardens, in addition to scholarships and other civic projects.

Tickets are on sale at Toad Hall Bookstore at 51 Main St. in Rockport, or by calling 978-546-2896, 978-546-1638 or 978-546-6861 or online at gardentour@rockportgardenclub.org.

Tickets will also be sold from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Information Booth at Upper Main Street and at Barletta Park on the corner of Broadway near T-Wharf.
