Brown, Alves win Seacoast Seven

The Gloucester Fisherman Triathlon may not be making it’s fourth go round this summer, but that didn’t stop Ethan Brown from entering the winners circle in the city.

Brown, who won all three Gloucester Fisherman Triathlon events, made another trip to the winner’s circle in Gloucester on Saturday finishing first in the ninth annual Seacoast Seven Road Race.

Brown, a 27-year-old Lowell resident, dominated the field with a winning time of 37:16. The next competitor to finish the seven-mile race course, which starts and finishes at Stage Fort Park and loops around Magnolia, was Nick Sousa of Salem with a time of 44:00, 2:44 behind brown.

The women’s race saw a pair of Cape Ann runners finish in the top two. Rockport’s Layce Alves was the first female finisher for the second year in a row with a time of 44:01, good for eighth place overall and improving upon her winning time of 46:12 in 2011.

Gloucester’s Regina Loicano finished second in the women’s division and ninth overall with a time of 44:27. Alves and Loicano were well ahead of the rest of the pack as the next female to cross the finish line, Eliza Tibbits of Brookline, was nearly two minutes later (46:17).

Gloucester’s Matthew Curran was the top Cape Ann finisher with a time of 42:41, good for fourth place overall. Curran was followed by Jim Ryan of Essex who finished fifth with a time of 42:48.

Alves, Loicano, Luke Sadrian of Essex (44:31) and Michael Telles of Gloucester (45:34) were the next locals to cross the finish line.

All proceeds of the Seacoast Seven Road Race go to Seacoast Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester.
