Authorities quiet on fed raid of Rockport house

ROCKPORT — Several federal agencies were involved in a raid of a Warren Court residence Saturday, but neither Rockport police nor Department of Justice officials involved with the case have released any information regarding the case this morning.

One neighborhood resident confirmed this morning that the raid lasted several hours. Matthew Pierce, a neighbor, said the raid started around 8 a.m. Saturday and lasted until well into the afternoon.

According to the towns’ assessor records, the house at 1 Warren Ct. is owned by Daniel H. George Jr.

There is no indication that George was charged or arrested during — or in conjunction with — the raid.

But, according to court documents, George is a self-taught chemist who operated a nutritional supplement business out of his Rockport home. In May 2006, he was convicted of four counts of tax evasion and was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment. He appealed the conviction, but his conviction was affirmed in appeals court.

Court documents show George that established Biogenesis Foundation Inc., which the Internal Revenue Service still lists as a public charity, according to the IRS website.
