Gloucester Police/Fire: City man facing domestic assault and battery charge

Gloucester Police/Fire

Police arrested a Maplewood Avenue man Friday around 2:15 a.m. after responding to a call for an alleged domestic disturbance.

Francis Green, 48, was found hiding in a closet by officers at the residence.

According to the police report, a caller had phoned police after hearing yelling, screaming and someone being thrown up against a wall in a nearby condominium.

When officers responded, the victim in the alleged attack told police a man had hit her right eye and threw her into a wall, according to the police report. The woman declined medical treatment.

Police found that a mattress and box spring had been flipped over to create a barrier in the bedroom, making it difficult to move around the room. Officers, however, then found Green in the closet, where he was handcuffed.

The victim reportedly told police that she did not want to press charges; the police report, however, states that Green is facing a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Police said a Gloucester High School official approached the school’s resource officer, Sgt. Michael Gossom, when the school official had taken a Swiss Army Knife from a student Thursday at 10:15 a.m.

Gossom, however, determined that no law was violated, and the school officials handled the situation on their own, according to the police report.

Police arrested a Methuen man Thursday at 3 p.m. after a Route 128 traffic stop when police found that the registered owner was not driving the vehicle and one of the passengers, 56-year-old William Sullivan, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Police arrested 31-year-old Jared Johnson of Lloyd Street near Concord Street and Conomo Point Road in Essex Friday at 9:15 a.m. on two outstanding warrants out of Gloucester District Court.

Thursday around 2:39 p.m., police received a report of a young boy walking along the Route 128 Extension. Police said they found an O’Maley Innovation School Student walking home; he was given a ride the rest of the way.
