---- — ROCKPORT — Town firefighters took about a half hour Tuesday evening to knock down a fire in a home at the corner of Penzance Road and Eden Road.

Firefighters responded to the call of a “working fire” at the home at 17 Penzance Road around 4:55 p.m., and crews arriving first on the scene reported smoke showing out the front of the structure.

Firefighters reported that no one was in the building, and there were no reports of any injuries. Calls from the scene indicated that crews had knocked down the fire by around 5:30.

Fire Chief James Doyle said nobody was injured in the fire, with three pumps and one ladder truck responding to the scene, in addition to an ambulance.

Syd Wedmore, a neighbor who lives nearby on South Street, said he was unsure if anyone was home at the time when the fire occurred, as a number of houses in area are used as summer homes.

Doyle said the cause of the fire was yet to be determined, but he confirmed that there were flames coming from the deck of the house, which faces the water. He added there was some smoke and fire damage to both the interior and exterior of the house.

According to the towns assessor records, the $852,700 ranch style home is owned by a Winchester woman. Firefighters said they had contacted with the homeowner to inform her of the fire.
