Digging dinosaurs and books

Reading program kicks off at Rockport Public Library

ROCKPORT — A fossil hunter was at Rockport Public Library this week to kick the summer children’s reading program into gear. Apropos since the theme is “Dig into Reading.”

Author Paulette Morin, dressed for digging dinosaur bones, touched on the who, what, when and where of dinosaurs and the prehistoric past while showing off some 100 fossilized bones and eggs to the attending children.

The reading program lasts seven weeks, and children who register will receive a bookmark and book bag. And bookworms in kindergarten through grade sixth can enter to win tickets to the Topsfield Fair, plus a meal and rides voucher.

As part of the program, there will be a live animal show featuring creatures that dig or borrow on July 10 at 3 p.m. in Millbrook Meadow.

Several other events are scheduled as part of the program. More information is available by visiting the children’s room at Rockport Public Library.
