Fire hits homes in Riverdale, West Gloucester

Gloucester firefighters have knocked down a house fire in West Gloucester — the second house fire within just seven hours today.

The firefighters responded to a call regarding a blaze in a house at 11 Woodman St. off Essex Avenue at around 11:15 a.m., and responders arriving on the scene reported “smoke showing” and then a “working fire.”

A unit from Rockport also responded to provide station coverage at Goucester’s Central Station while crews are at the Woodman Street site.

Firefighters were able to confined the blaze to the kitchen, and were able to knock it down within about 15 minutes, according to reports from the scene.

Earlier this morning, Gloucester firefighters also knocked down a pre-dawn house fire at 416 Washington St., in the city’s Riverdale section. Officials reported heavy damage to at least one room in the single-family house there, but firefighters knocked down the blaze quickly to prevent significant other damage.
