Gloucester Police/Fire: Wells Street man faced domestic assault charges

Officers arrested a Gloucester man after he allegedly assaulted a woman and nearly started a fight with a man at the corner of Washington Street and Commonwealth Avenue Wednesday at 5:53 p.m.

Police arrested Andrew Stone, 34, of 21 Wells St., for domestic assault and battery.

According to Gloucester Police, an officer responded to his apartment on Wells Street after a woman who lives downstairs called police to report an upstairs commotion. When police arrived, the officer spoke with a woman at the apartment, who said she had argued with him and went into the bathroom to get away from him.

He then, she said, kicked in the bathroom door and hit her in the face. When she went to leave the house, he slammed the door on her hand and threw her to the ground, before leaving the residence. Police arrested him later after putting out his description while Fire Department paramedics attended to the woman.

Police located Stone and found him about to become involved in a fight with another man on the corner of Washington Street and Commonwealth Avenue. Police arrested Stone and told the other man to move along.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious motor vehicle on the Route 128 Extension Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Officers, however, could neither locate the vehicle on the roadway nor at the address to which it was registered.

A report of an unknown motor home in a driveway on Poplar Court drew police response Wednesday at 4:48 p.m. Police found the motor home with a Tennessee license plate in the driveway of an unoccupied home on Poplar Court, but no one was in the motor home.

Police received a call Wednesday at 7:09 p.m. from a Madison Avenue resident who said that someone had threatened to slash his tires. Police spoke to the 80-year-old man who made the threat. He told them he didn't intend to slash anyone's tires and was simply frustrated when he said it. No charges were filed.

A Hutchins Court resident called police Wednesday at 9:50 p.m. to report that his ex-girlfriend had shut herself in her car and threatened to cut herself. Police and Fire Department paramedics responded and took the woman to Addison Gilbert Hospital for evaluation.

A Prospect Street woman called police at 9:31 a.m. Thursday and told officers that her daughter's husband, who wasn't allowed in her daughter's home on Prospect Street, was living there while her daughter was in a treatment facility. Police told the woman to call the Gloucester Housing Authority, which manages the property.

Officers responded to what they termed a minor two-car accident on Maplewood Avenue Thursday at 12:18 p.m. and reported no injuries. Police said they helped the drivers exchange paperwork and both vehicles left under their own power.
