Summer Street house hit by fire

Gloucester firefighters tonight knocked down a working house fire in a three-story building on Summer Street, but at least one person was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital and there was at least one other report of a person at the scene being treated for smoke inhalation.

The initial reports from crews arriving on the scene of the two-alarm blaze at 36 Summer St. reported smoke and fire coming from the back of the building and a person trapped inside. A radio call as of 8:45 reported that crews had gotten the person — a 15-year-old girl, according to emergency radio reports from the scene — out of the house. Her condition was unavailable as of press time.

The two-alarm blaze broke out shortly after 8:30 p.m., and firefighters reported as having the fire "knocked down" by 8:50. But, while reopening Granite Street, which had been shut down, by 9:45 p.m., crews were still actively working at the scene and other firefighters have been called in for assistance. Crews from Manchester and Rockport were also called in to assist with Gloucester coverage.
