---- — GLOUCESTER — A Perkins Street man who was arrested just last week for aggravated assault and violating a restraining order is now behind bars, facing new charges of aggravated rape, breaking and entering, threatening to commit a crime and violating his restraining order.
Chris A. Spanks, 33, was arrested Tuesday after being questioned by police at the Gloucester Police Station, according to a police report. A police report indicated Spanks was arrested after speaking with police at around 10:45 a.m.
Spanks was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Gloucester District Court, and court officials said Spanks was being held without bail at Middleton Jail. Spanks has a dangerousness hearing set for Friday in Gloucester District Court about his most recent charges.
Police reports indicated that he arrested just last week for aggravated assault and violating a restraining order after grabbing a woman and applying pressure to an injured area.
Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokesman for the Essex County District Attorney’s office said Spanks has a pretrial hearing set for May 20 for his earlier charges of aggravated assault and violating his restraining order, which stemmed last week’s incident.
In 2009, Spanks was arrested on charges of larceny, malicious destruction and breaking and entering his estranged wife’s home.
He was also arrested in 2008 on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness, but those charges were later dismissed in Gloucester District Court after a failure to prosecute.
