---- — Felicia Grossi of Alchemy Bistro and her mixed drink “Simpler Tides” were named Wednesday as winner of the “Spirit of Gloucester” cocktail contest, which played out last Saturday during the season’s first Downtown Block Party.
The contest, a featured attraction at each of the three Block Parties this summer, is aimed at increasing the synergy and camaraderie between the sponsoring Ryan & Wood Distillery, local restaurants and the Block Party participants. Ryan & Wood is a Gloucester-based distillery, located in Blackburn Industrial Park.
Gloucester mixologists in the Block Party were challenged to create a winning cocktail using Ryan & Wood’s Folly Cove Rum. Seven restaurants —Short & Main, Dogbar, Giuseppes, Ohana, Topside Grill, Alchemy and Lat43— all rose to the challenge.
Meanwhile, more than 400 Block Party attendees cast their votes, with Grossi and Alchemy edging out Short & Main for the title.
Next on the cocktail menu? Another spirited contest at the Aug. 17 Block Party, this time with Ryan and Wood’s Knockabout Gin.
