Missing man dies in NH

A Gloucester family is mourning today, after receiving word that their loved one, missing since Wednesday morning, has died.

C. Bruce McKay, 69, of Adams Place, a diabetic, was found unresponsive at a Seabrook, N.H., hotel late Thursday morning, according to police in that town.

Gloucester police said his widow and family were notified of his death in the early afternoon.

“He’s a real homebody, all family,” Margaret McKay said of her husband of 47 years. “He never met anyone who didn’t like him.”

She called her husband a cheap gambler; “he would cry in his beer if he lost 20 bucks.” She said he and friends would get together to play a little poker once or twice a month.

She said her husband loved New Hampshire, and the couple would often travel in the Seabrook area, where her husband would visit the Seabrook greyhound track when it was open.

“He found it peaceful up that way,” Margaret said

Bruce McKay had left the family home on Adams Street around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, heading to Ira Toyota on Route 114 in Danvers to get a grease and oil change for his blue Toyota Rav4. He never arrived at the dealership, his wife Margaret said Thursday morning.

Friends and family had been posting his description on Facebook and Twitter, saying he was in dire need of medication, in hopes that someone would have seen him.

McKay had worked at Gloucester Engineering for 37 years, before retiring as chief accountant.

The couple have three children, Margaret-Marie Henry, Carlton Jr., the spouse of Carl Stratton, all of Gloucester, and Amanda, wife of Robert Jobe Jr. of Manchester.

McKay is also survived by six grandchildren, Brenden and Alex Henry of Gloucester, and Rachelle, Tatum, Bodin and Cooper Jobe, all of Manchester. He was predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Greeley Funeral Home in Gloucester.
