A day for sharing and giving thanks

The spirit of giving — the spirit that dominates today’s Thanksgiving holiday — was in evidence on several fronts Tuesday night at two church-run community dinners in Gloucester.

In one of the events, more than 30 people gathered at The Open Door food pantry for a dinner hosted by St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Meanwhile, some 80 people also shared a community Thanksgiving dinner at the First Baptist Church on Gloucester Avenue. There, church member Ev Harlow and John Hicks presented music on guitar and vocals, and organizers offered up traditional Thanksgiving meals on the church’s 100-year-old china, said Dianne Eason, one of the event coordinators.

“The hall was beautifully decorated ... and it was a memorable evening of fellowship and human sharing,” Eason said.

On this day of sharing and giving thanks, Happy Thanksgiving — from all of us at the Gloucester Daily Times.
