The latest new addition to Gloucester’s skyline is taking shape above the Gloucester Engineering property in Blackburn Industrial Park.
Crews working on what will be twin 255-foot wind turbines, a little more than half the height of the giant 479-foot Goliath already built and awaiting startup at the adjacent Varian/Applied Materials site, have installed both the tower and nacelle engine for the first of those structures, with one still to come.
The Gloucester Engineering turbines are not only being designed to power that company’s buildings and operations, but also to provide power for the city of Gloucester’s public buildings once they become operational around the turn of the new year.
City officials are projecting that the new turbine will save the city an estimated $225,000 for the rest of this fiscal year, which runs through June 30, and an annual savings of $450,000 going forward.
