Update: New tornado warning issued for Essex County through 4:15

With the first warning due to expire, the National Weather Service has issued a new tornado warning for Essex County, but the storms involved are tracking north and west of Cape Ann, to communities such as Middleton, Andover and Ipswich.

The Weather Service has also issued a flash flood warning for Essex Clounty through 5:30 p.m., and a warning of water spouts of the shores of Cape Ann out of Stellwagen Bank.

While a tornado or other storm watch means that the conditions are in place for a possible tornado formation, a tornado warning means that a funnel cloud has been sighted, either on its own or withing passing severe storms.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage on Cape Ann. though there were reports of heavy and a hail, in the form of sleet, in the town of Essex when the storm passed over that area at around 3:15.

We will update this story here at gloucesterimes.com as more information becomes available.
