Ready for the 'Mad Hot Ball'

Fifth-graders hit the ballroom Sunday at GHS

After several months of regular rehearsals, several hundred fifth-graders from the five Gloucester elementary schools will hold their eighth annual Mad Hot Ball Sunday at 2 p.m. in Gloucester High School’s Benjamin A. Smith Field House.

The dance is under the direction of Tina and Ron LaFlam of Miss Tina’s Studio of Dance and Gloucester’s elementary school music teachers.

The idea for the ballroom dancing program came from a movie called “The Mad Hot Ball,” about a similar program in Brooklyn, N.Y., and has likely been helped along by the hit TV show, “Dancing With the Stars.” Rockport Elementary School recently had its own similar dance program.

The program is funded in part by the Gloucester Education Foundation.
