---- — The mother of the 29-year-old Salem man who was killed after reportedly being struck or run over by a car early Saturday morning in Gloucester’s Pond View housing complex remembered him as being hard-working, fun-loving and caring, adding that she spoke with him several hours before his death.
Michael J. Linscott was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s office.
Authorities identified Linscott over the weekend as being from Danvers, but a late death notice in Monday’s edition of The Salem News, sister paper to the Times, reported he lived in Salem.
But his mother, Donna Linscott, said her son was living with her on Lafayette Street at the time his death. They previously lived in Danvers, she said.
“He was my personal care assistant, he took care of me,” Donna Linscott said. “He was a wonderful person.”
Linscott went to Beverly High and a number of schools in Salem and Lynn. Recently, he got a job as a roofer and enjoyed painting houses, his mother said.
“He enjoyed baseball, hockey and being around family and friends,” she said. “He will be missed.”
She said phone calls have been pouring into her home and she is still “dumbfounded” by what happened. She said she has not spoken to police about the details surrounding his death.
Police received a 911 call reporting the incident at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, Kimball Monahan said, indicating that “a man had been struck by a car at 39 Lepage Lane” in West Gloucester’s Pond View Village housing complex. Gloucester police, state police and detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s office are investigating.
Kimball Monahan said investigators are still looking to “sort out” aspects of the case, however, a release from the district attorney’s office referred to the call only as “an incident” in which Linscott died; it did not refer to it as a car-pedestrian or any other type of “accident.”
