Christmas story comes alive

The original Christmas story once again came alive Saturday, with Rockport’s presentation of its annual Christmas Nativity Pageant through the community’s downtown streets.

The pageant, the 66th annual presentation, carried the Holy Family and others on its trek from Dock Square to the inn — disguised as the Rockport Art Association – and onto the manger on the lawn of the Congregational Church.

The idea of a living pageant in Rockport was originated with Dr. William F. Strangman and Mrs. Aldro Hibbard as a gift from the Rockport Art Association to the people of the town in the 1940s. The event and a following community carol sing once again drew hundreds of spectators who saw the story of the birth of Jesus unfold.
